Abstract :
The paper reviews the development of the four-year degree course in electronic engineering, setting it into the context of the three-year B.Sc. courses at the Faculty of Engineering at Southampton University. The Diploma of Engineering is awarded for additional material which consists of a full year of academic study and two periods in Industry. The additional course content is described as `engineering enhanced¿¿ and is discussed in detail in the paper. Now, with four years of experience of producing graduates from the course, it is possible to evaluate it, at least in subjective terms, and it is argued that the course has been successful in fulfilling its academic, industrial and institutional aims.
