  • Abstract
    The microbending added losses of a double-coated optical fiber has been discussed in terms of the flexural and lateral rigidity. Explicit formulas have been discussed and a new empirical formula, derived from finite element method (FEM) calculations, has been suggested to take into account properly a double layer coating. Some inconsistencies of a previous adopted formula have been solved
