Abstract
While it is probably true that most directors and board-level managers in the manufacturing industry are aware of the penalties for failing to meet the sometimes bewildering confusion of health and safety legislation, the possible benefits of proactive compliance may not be quite so obvious. The author argues how, if positive advantages are being actively promoted, not just by an industrial pressure group, but also by a major financial institution, it could be worth the board´s while to listen.<>
