An energy strategy for the UK

The papers are taken from the colloquium on `An energy strategy for the UK¿¿ organised by the Engineering and Society Executive Committee (M2) of the IEE´s Management and Design Division. Five papers are presented. The keynote speech on the UK Government´s approach to energy policy by the Under Secretary of State for Energy is complemented by a review of the issues which an energy policy should address. An alternative `Low energy strategy for the UK¿¿, published six years ago, is assessed in terms of achievements in energy efficiency to date. The structure of the electricity supply industry is critically appraised and a proposal is made to reshape it. Finally, a view of the energy scene from the oil industry´s position is put forward. The discussion sessions are summarised.
