Abstract :
Parameters important in the design and operation of redox batteries are derived. The chromium/iron redox systems developed by NASA Lewis Research Centre are used to illustrate the usage of these parameters. The paper concludes with an overview of the design process, the advantages and disadvantages of redox systems and a short description of possible applications. Where appropriate, comparisons are drawn between redox and lead/acid batteries.
