Abstract :
A self-adaptive finite-element mesh generation scheme is presented which allows the computer user to specify a minimal mesh structure and still generate a mesh structure that is optimal. The technique is based on complementary finite-element principles that also guarantee global error bounds. Practical results are presented, using a computer package incorporating these features, that illustrate the advantages of the method both in terms of reduced user involvement and increased computational efficiency
