Abstract :
We show that by the correct choice of pump wavelengths, second-order Raman pumping can be used to reduce the noise figure tilt inherent in wide bandwidth systems utilizing Raman amplification. We present results on both discrete and distributed amplification and investigate the benefits and pump-power tradeoffs associated with this technique.
