Abstract
Eight case histories are presented of events, inventions, or discoveries that have technical and sociological significance. All date from sometime in the twenty-five years since IEEE Spectrum was founded. They are: the Apollo Moon lander; Digital Equipment´s PDP-8 personal computer; the digital oscilloscope; the Pacific Intertie that brings Columbia River hydroelectric power from the state of Washington to the city of Los Angeles; fiber-optic technology; the compact-disc (CD) digital audio systems; dynamic RAMs; and the video cassette recorder.<>
