Abstract :
The Areal Land Information System (ALIS) is an integrated urban and regional information system for data collection and computer mapping. Although the principal aim of ALIS is to meet current demands in environmental and demographic research and planning, its graphics subsystems can handle most contemporary requirements in color raster graphics. A description is given of the ALIS structure; data collection systems for geographic information systems; ALIS databases; display and output; and the graphics software. The system presents up-to-date, detailed information in the form of an interactive map.
