Abstract
Emerging trends that will combine to yield productive workstation environments are discussed. In the author´s view, interactive graphics, as the primary man-machine interface, will continue to drive the use of workstations. Distributions processing will make workstations flexible and cost-effective enough for a variety of applications. Implementing standards will ensure configurability. Finally, sharing data and resources through advanced database management techniques will tie the pieces and the functions of the workstation together.
