Abstract :
The merging of reduced-instruction-set computers (RISC), parallel processing, compiler techniques, graphics and bus technologies, and custom integrated circuits into a new class of computer, variously called the graphics supercomputer, the super graphics workstation, the graphics supercomputing workstation, the 3-D super workstation, or the personal supercomputer, is discussed. The characteristics and capabilities of machines from different manufacturers are summarized.<>
