Abstract :
Minimum delay in an ad hoc network may be traded for improved network scalability in terms of per-node throughput. However, the precise effect on the subsequent network delay is as yet unknown. The benefits of two routing possibilities are compared quantitatively, and their delay characteristics evaluated. For a fully scalable network topology, delays of a few minutes are found for one routing example, and just a few seconds for the other when implemented in a normal indoor pedestrian environment.
