Abstract :
Photoacoustic effects can be used to generate microscopic light absorption images of various samples, even of the surfaces of thick nontransparent materials. The technique is sensitive to structures immediately beneath the surface as well. Resolution of a few micrometres is easily obtained by using standard microscopic objectives.
