Proof of designed reliability

The generation of the designer´s brief underlies the management of design and goes far beyond marketing to define the product. Here, the author argues that if the manager is to set up the network of activities that contribute to a successful design, he must have a specification that details the required life and working environment of the product, a knowledge of the testing required and the test equipment available, a programme for proving the product and a plan for in-service support.<>
