Abstract :
The amplitude densities of many real signal sources can be modelled by generalised Gaussian density functions. For such sources with statistically independent samples as well as for two-dimensional image signals the ¿-entropy and the theoretical minimum numbers of bits per sample to obtain a certain tolerable distortion are determined.
