Abstract
Uniformly excited arrays of identical elements suffer from high close-in sidelobes. Suppression of sidelobe levels can be achieved by tapering the aperture amplitude distribution, but a more complex feed network results. A novel form of amplitude tapering is described, in which element pattern control in uniformly excited arrays is shown to theoretically reduce close-in sidelobe levels.
