Abstract
The detection of binary antipodal signals in the presence of white Gaussian noise is considered. The classical error probabilities, using ideal matched-filter detection for the complete signal waveform, are compared with those where hard decisions are made on subsections of the waveform. It is shown that a penalty of about 2 dB arises from this technique.
