Abstract
The design of two bending magnets for a compact synchrotron radiation source involves a multilayer coil with circular cross section, optionally surrounded by a C-shaped cold-iron shielding, and a cold bore. One magnet has a bending radius of R=1.2 m, and produces a homogeneous field; the other with R=0.71 m, has a field index n=0.525. The field strength on the electron orbit is about 4 T. The three-dimensional force and field calculations are reviewed briefly. The feasibility of winding such magnets was demonstrated by a test coil that is also described.
