Abstract :
Using evanescent wave theory combined with nonlinear transformation techniques, very accurate upper and lower limits of the exact results for modal propagation constants and group delays are obtained for a near parabolic graded-index optical fibre. Comparing to a first order WKB solution we find WKB errors in group delays of 3¿10 ps/km compared to the exact results, the fundamental mode specifying the worst case.
