Abstract :
The principles of operation and applications of frequency selective limiters (FSL´s) are described. The various types of FSL´s are grouped into three main classes: a) FSL´s using multiple stagger tuned LC-resonant circuits, each containing two back-to-back diodes; b) FSL´s using direct signal absorption; and c) FSL´s using parametric subharmonic generation. The theory of operation of these devices is reviewed. From the results, it is noted that the characteristics of existing FSL´s are attractive for their use in communication systems where signal interference is a serious problem to overcome.
