Abstract :
A model is proposed for errors that occur in estimating frequency offset between oscillators driving two clocks that are synchronized with a digital control loop. Three specific estimators are analyzed. One, the maximum-likelihood estimator, yields a minimum-mean-square estimate for Gaussian errors. A second offers convenient implementation and provides performance close to that of the maximum-likelihood estimator
