Abstract
This paper discusses how engineers can realize their full potential and overcome the obstacles to achieving career progression. A study called Motivation Matters identified the barriers to career progression include lack of opportunities, lack of career guidance, and minimal provision of training and education programs. To overcome these barriers, it is important for employers to provide more opportunities for development and for employees to take responsibility for their own career planning.
