Abstract :
A theorem is presented, giving criteria for the natural modes of a linear passive reciprocal lumped RLC network to be real or complex pairs. Thus underdamped and overdamped dynamical systems are distinguished. The required conditions are expressed in terms of quadratic functions of resistance, inductance and elastance matrices.
