Abstract
The Graphics standars Committee of the international Organization for Standardization (ISO/TC97/SC21/WG2) is developing a basic reference mode for computer graphics. This model is based on the implied models contained in such standards and proposed standards as GKS, PHIGS, CGM, and CGI. It will provide a basis for the coordination of standards development for computer graphics and define the interfaces between computer graphics standards and those in other areas of information processing, as does the Open Systems Interconnection Reference Model for computer communication standards. The purpose of this article is to report on progress in development of this reference model, its descriptive features, and how verious graphics standards fit into it.
