Abstract :
Recent advances in the development of organic materials to conduct electricity and emit light should provide the basis for the economic manufacture of active matrix displays built upon organic light emitting diode technology, beginning in 2003. The steps leading from laboratory science and prototype demonstrations to high-volume low-cost fabrication in the years 2003 to 2010 are outlined, and the major processing challenges are identified.
