Abstract :
Within the framework of a conceptual design for the fusion reactor FINTOR a superconducting toroidal magnet system has been studied. A D-shaped 24 coil system has been designed. The magnetic field and ripple have been calculated. Several cooling systems have been considered and the circulation of the two-phase helium seems to be the most reliable. Eddy current and hysteresis losses have been calculated for the particular geometry of the composite conductor in the hypothesis of a linear rise of the field. Some aspects of the mechanical structure are also considered.
