Abstract :
A full-scale model has been designed and constructed which has two functions: bending and focusing the extracting beam, and producing the dipole field (using four-turn coils) and quadrupole field (using current sheets). These conductors are electrically insulated with ceramic coating. Heat from the current sheets is transferred to the dipole coils with the aid of He gas filling. The design considerations for the magnetic flux distribution are outlined, and the design and fabrication of components are discussed. Topics covered include descriptions of heat transfer considerations, vacuum duct and air-tight enclosure designs, and magnetic field measurements using a Hall generator.
