Abstract :
Loss measurements have been made on inductively wound superconducting solenoids using a flowmeter-type measuring system. The solenoids were wound from representative samples of commercially available Nb-Ti multifilament wire and were powered by a variable voltage 60 Hz line source. Losses have been found to vary with the nth power of the exciting current where 3 l\\sim n l\\sim 4 . Loss rates of 0.2 W per cm3of conductor at 4 A, peak excitation, are typical for the samples measured.
