Abstract :
Computers of every kind have become indispensable to the progress of the U.S. Magnetic Fusion Program. This review provides a broad perspective of every application: control and analysis of experiments; the National Magnetic Fusion Energy Computer Center and its network of machines across the U.S.; the growth of engineering computations; the contributions of computational physics to plasma theory and the understanding which has made magnetic fusion energy a national goal.
