Abstract :
The growing web of computer networks has triggered a search for an organizing principle to monitor and control operations. The various system management functions are identified, and the development of network management standards is discussed. Particular attention is given to the Basic Reference Model for Open Systems Interconnection (OSI), developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).<>
