Abstract
Wear tests were conducted on a series of polycrystalline nickel-zinc ferrites, (Ni0.47 Zn0.53 )1-δ Fe2+δ O4 , where δ varied between -0.234 and 0.128. The extent of wear was found to be unaffected by the chemical composition of the ferrite material. A calculation showed that the mechanism of wear was burnishing, which should be relatively insensitive to small variations from stoichiometry.
