Abstract :
Based on observations about statistical characteristics and microstructural dependence of Barkhausen noise, a possible model for the mutual coupling of domain transitions within polycrystalline microstructure is proposed. Experimentally evaluated Barkhausen noise behaviour as a function of grain size in annealed and temper rolled steel sheet is compared to the predictions of the model. Coupling of domain transitions over grain boundaries and the influence of stresses produced by temper rolling on this process are discussed.
