Abstract
The primary requirement of this Production Magnet System (PMS II) is to provide a uniform magnetic field of 6 T+or-1.8 mT (+or-0.03%) over a 0.75-m diameter by 5.0-m long region. The magnet design proposed is 10.1 m long, has a 1.3-meter bore, and weighs 195 tons. The mechanical, thermal, and manufacturing design aspects of the system are reported. Magnet features discussed include the helium vessel/bobbing conductor splices, vapor-cooled conductor leads, helium overpressure protection devices, and stresses incurred during warm-up or cool-down.
