Abstract :
A simple approach, developed for the design of linear motors, leads to a quick evaluation of the machine reactances and of their dependence on iron saturation. The method consists of conformal mapping by means of the Schwartz-Christoffel transformation coupled with numerical integration. This allows the handling, not only of a large number of pole shapes, but also of variable potential distributions at the boundary. Corrections for 3-dimensional fluxes are easily introduced.
