Abstract
The Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) has recently completed a study of programmable automation (PA) in manufacturing. The study discusses programmable automation technologies, ramifications for industrial structure and competitive conduct, and effects on employment issues. The discussion focuses on how and where programmable automation will affect the work force.
