Abstract :
Due to the increasing of wind turbines all over Europe and in particular in Spain, it is necessary evaluate all the possible risks in these installations, considering lightning strikes as one of the major threats. At the present there is published an specific standard for lightning in wind mills, IEC 61400-24 based on IEC standard 61024. This paper presents an evaluation of the lightning discharges that would be needed to consider for wind mills lightning protection system design.
