Abstract :
After lowering the temperature of the melt used to grow CaGe films from a relatively high value to the actual growth value a process occurs in which the system approaches "stability", characterized by the rapid decrease of the saturation temperature and cf the growth rate. As the melt has reached "stability", by choosing a fixed growth temperature, a given rotation rate of the substrate, and by properly prolonging the growth time (because of the slow decay of the growth rate), it is possible to produce films by the run-to-run process with good reproducibility. On about twenty SmYCaGe films grown in this way, the magnetization 4πMs, the material length l, the collapse field Hoand the bubble diameter d are found to be practically the same. YSmLuTmCaGe 3μm bubble films are also found to be easily reproducible. The melt composition used for the growth and the measured magnetic properties of the films are given.
