Abstract
The operation of a circuit developed for the pulse energising of electrostatic precipitators (ESP) is investigated. The circuit is part of a system consisting of a DC LV power supply, the pulse generator proper, a pulse transformer, a DC HV power supply and the electrostatic precipitator. The electrical characteristics of the precipitator vary with the changing characteristics of the fluid (dust, fly-ashes, etc.) flowing through it. Essentially the pulse generator includes an LC resonant circuit energised by a switching circuit made up of SCRs and diodes. The whole system is simulated without resorting to important simplifications. The critical parameters are pointed out and the electrical strains and stresses of all the components of the system are assessed. The circuit simulator used here is a version of SPICE2G6 modified to meet the requirements of power circuit analysis
