Abstract :
Five residential space cooling technologies (high-efficiency heat pumps, some coupled with utility direct load control or with thermal energy storage), are defined and computer simulation of their performance is described. The cost-effectiveness of the five alternatives is then evaluated, and the relative uncertainty of the data inputs is tested by using the Monte Carlo technique of probability analysis. It is concluded that comparative analysis comprises an initial screening of potential technologies, and provides a framework and direction for more detailed analysis of these technologies in the future
