Abstract :
A working model of a plane volume-gradient magnetic separator, constructed for laboratory investigations on magnetic upgrading of weakly magnetic ores, is described. The separator has a superconducting winding which provides an average surface magnetic force of about 85 T/m2 at a current of 200 A over an area of 15 dm2. The plane VGMS allows variation of process parameters by changing the separator surface orientation with respect to gravity and by change of the pulp flow direction relative to the magnetic-force relief.
