Abstract
Various possible troubles that may befall engineering societies defending the ethical practice of engineering are outlined. These include lawsuits by irate employers and the loss of support for the societies. It is pointed out that properly conducted activities in this realm are not only very well justified but are highly unlikely to result in damage to the societies involved. Attacks made in the spirit of vengeance are far more likely to damage the attacker than the intended victim. Reference is made to the experience of other types of organizations that have remained unscathed, even though, at first glance, they appear to be highly vulnerable to legal harassment.
