OSI session layer: Services and protocols

This paper describes the principles of the Session Layer of Open Systems Interconnection and the current standardization status. The Session Layer provides the means necessary for cooperating Presentation-entities to organize and synchronize their dialogue, and to manage their data exchange. To do this, the Session Layer provides services to establish a session connection between two Presentation-entities, and to support orderly data exchange interactions.
