Abstract :
It is shown that hierarchical dual-ring networks can substantially reduce the average propagation delay seen in single-level dual-ring networks. Results for star networks indicate that multilevel architectures increase the average propagation delay only incrementally, yet multilevel stars may still be attractive when other design criteria (such as amount of fibre required) are also considered.
