Abstract
A method of determining and comparing reach of broadband CATV systems using hybrid IC amplifiers is outlined. System design theory is given, and subsequent performance data projected and compared for systems operating at upper limit frequencies of 300, 320, 350 and 400 MHz, and carrying 35, 38, 43 and 51 television channels, respectively. Trunk station performance is expressed in terms of hybrid amplifier specifications and performance degradation factors. General design equations are presented, and from these, relative performance of a broad range of trunk spacings and channel loading conditions are determined. Specific spacings, cascades and reach for 350 and 400 MHz systems are suggested.
