Abstract :
The saturation magnetostriction has been measured at room temperature for the amorphous alloy series Fe80(ByC1-y)20with 0.5 < y < 1 and Fe80(BySi1-y)20with 0.4 < y < 1. The magnetostriction is independent of y for the Fe-B-C alloys and shows a slight increase with y for the Fe-B-Si series of alloys. The magnetostriction of the Fe-B-C series of alloys follows the assumption that the saturation moment controls the magnetostriction whereas this assumption applied to the Fe-B-Si series would predict a 20-percent decrease in magnetostriction rather than the small increase observed.
