Abstract :
This paper describes a high-performance magnetic separator developed specifically for use with "sliding-ramp" nonferrous metal separators and designed to remove all particles that are even slightly magnetic from the waste stream. It consists of a magnetic pulley used in combination with an inclined, plane magnet array (similar to the one used in the nonferrous metal separator) and a stainless steel belt. Tests of the separator on shredded municipal waste are described in which the feedrate was varied up to a maximum of 0.8 ton/h.
