Abstract :
This paper examines the filling factor of an infinite bar surround by a finite (thick wall) solenoid, and shows that it can be well approximated in most eddy current test situations by the square of the coupling coefficient. It also provides reasonable (±10%) approximations to allow simple calculation of the filling factor under these conditions.
