Abstract :
A transmission experiment at 5 Gbit/s using a direct-modulated 1300 nm Fabry-Perot type laser diode and a PIN photodiode is described. A transmission distance of 2 km using standard single-mode fibre has been achieved. The distance is sufficient for small area use such as local area networks.
