Abstract
A high-speed modulation-detection scheme is proposed that encodes each RZ pulse by colour with chirping, according to digital symbol. The proposed receiver, employing pulse-compression, enables the following performance through maximum likelihood detection: SNR relaxation of 8 or 10 dB compared to NRZ, if four or eight colours respectively, are used.
