Abstract :
Compared to using strictly algorithmic methods only, the planning of power system VAr control through an expert system will allow the integration of heuristics with equations representing the power system´s model. In this paper, an expert system is developed for short and long-term planning of voltage control and loss reduction in distribution systems using shunt capacitors and voltage regulators. Ideally, the expert system will become part of the SCADA system. An application using a real power system is also included
